This 128-page study of Scott O’Dell and his books was written for young readers. The story of his life includes many photographs, including one of San Nicolas Island, Karana’s actual home. Marcovitz divides the novels into several categories that reflect major themes in the books: Living in Concert with Nature, Telling History Through Fiction, Promoting the Rights of Women, Stories of Courage, and Troubled Teenagers.
